Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has issued a scathing condemnation of former President Donald Trump and Ohio Senator JD Vance for perpetuating baseless claims surrounding Haitian migrants in Springfield. In an op-ed published in the New York Times, DeWine criticized Trump and Vance for spreading misinformation that disparages legal migrants living in the city. He highlighted the harmful impact of their rhetoric on the community and called for an end to such damaging narratives.

DeWine asserted that the false claims made by Trump and Vance regarding Haitian migrants were not only unfounded but also served as a distraction from meaningful discussions on immigration policy. The Governor emphasized the need to focus on constructive dialogue about border security instead of perpetuating divisive and unsubstantiated allegations. He firmly rejected assertions made by Trump and Vance that Haitian migrants in Springfield were consuming neighborhood pets, labeling such claims as "a piece of garbage."

During an appearance on ABC's "This Week," DeWine reiterated his stance, denouncing the spread of misinformation about hate groups and fabricated stories of animals being eaten by migrants. The Governor emphasized the importance of moving forward with productive conversations that address real issues rather than being sidetracked by false narratives that sow discord. Additionally, DeWine revealed that Springfield had been targeted by multiple bomb threats in recent days, underscoring the urgency of tackling misinformation and fostering a sense of security within the community.
