According to the employee profile released by the Miami-Dade Police Department, Officer Danny Torres, who is currently under investigation in connection with the traffic stop and detainment of Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill, had been suspended six times prior to their encounter. The profile revealed that Torres received several written reprimands and was at the center of numerous complaints throughout his career.

From 2014 to 2019, Torres faced suspensions amounting to a total of 50 days. The records indicated that his first suspension occurred in February 2014 for a duration of five days. Following that, in 2016, he received three additional five-day suspensions - one in February and two in September. In October 2018, he was suspended for 20 days, and in June of the following year, he faced a 10-day suspension.

In addition to the suspensions, Torres received four written reprimands between March 1999 and September 2020. The employee profile, however, did not provide further details regarding the nature of the suspensions or reprimands. The Miami-Dade Police Department has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding the matter.

Currently, Torres is on administrative duty while an internal investigation is underway concerning his actions during the incident involving Tyreek Hill on September 8. Miami-Dade County Chief of Public Safety, James Reyes, expressed deep concern over the actions depicted in the released body camera footage, stating that they did not meet the expected standards of law enforcement.

Tyreek Hill has voiced his opinion that Torres should be fired, believing that if he weren't a well-known football player, he could have been subjected to even worse treatment. The incident in question involved Hill's detainment over allegations of careless driving and failure to wear a seat belt. Hill denied the allegations, claiming that he had indeed been wearing his seat belt and had taken it off as he was being pulled over.

The body camera footage captured an exchange between Hill and the officer, with Hill expressing his dissatisfaction about the officer knocking on his car window. As the situation escalated, Hill was forcibly removed from his vehicle, placed face down on the pavement, and subsequently handcuffed.

Torres' employee profile also revealed that he had been involved in several complaints during his tenure, with the majority of them being cleared. However, eight allegations were deemed "sustained," including violations related to unbecoming conduct, improper use of force, and improper use of his body camera.

The profile also highlighted some commendations received by Torres, such as "skillful performance of duty," "dedication to duty," and "teamwork." His most recent commendation, in May 2023, recognized his professionalism, dedication, and special awards.

There are differing opinions regarding Torres' actions, with Dolphins defensive lineman Calais Campbell and tight end Jonnu Smith stopping to assist Hill during the incident. Campbell, who was also handcuffed, described one of the officers as "extreme" and stated that he was trying to defuse the situation.

Ignacio Alvarez, an attorney representing Torres, deemed the decision to place the officer on leave as "premature" and demanded his immediate reinstatement along with a thorough and unbiased investigation. Alvarez has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the matter.
