Off-Duty NYPD Officer Among Four Victims Killed in Nail Salon Crash

In a tragic accident on Friday, an off-duty officer from the New York City Police Department (NYPD) lost her life when an SUV crashed into a nail salon in Long Island. The officer, identified as Emilia Rennhack from the 102nd Precinct in Queens, was among the four victims who were killed in the incident.

Authorities confirmed the death of Officer Rennhack on Saturday, leaving the NYPD and the New York City Police Benevolent Association devastated. The association took to social media, expressing their sorrow and requesting prayers for Rennhack's family, friends, and colleagues.

The incident took place at Hawaii Nail & Spa on Grand Boulevard in Deer Park. Witnesses reported that a Chevy Traverse smashed through the front window of the salon, narrowly missing a complete exit through the back. According to Lt. Kevin Heissenbuttel from the Suffolk County police, all of the victims were inside the salon at the time of the crash.

The driver of the SUV, identified as Steven Schwally, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Authorities allege that Schwally was driving the Chevy Traverse at a high speed through a parking lot when he crossed over Grand Boulevard and crashed into the nail salon. The exact details of the incident are still under investigation.

In addition to Officer Rennhack, there were three other victims who lost their lives. However, their identities have not yet been released by officials. Nine others were injured in the crash, and they are currently receiving medical treatment.

Witnesses at the scene recounted that the SUV appeared to be racing through the parking lot before crashing into the salon. One witness mentioned that the driver was in a rush and attempting to maneuver around another vehicle when the collision occurred. Another witness reported hearing a speeding car followed by a loud crashing noise.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of drunk driving and the devastating consequences it can have. The NYPD and the community are mourning the loss of Officer Emilia Rennhack and the other victims, and are calling for justice to be served.
