In a series of shootings that occurred in North Charlotte, one man was killed and two others were injured, including a cyclist. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has expressed concern for public safety, suggesting that these incidents may have been random.

The shootings took place over a span of 30 minutes, starting after 1 a.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of Statesville Avenue and Tipton Drive. Mustaffa Muhammad, a 58-year-old man, was found dead on the road next to a grey car after being shot. A few minutes later, at Lasalle Street and Newland Road, a cyclist was targeted but fortunately not hit.

Shortly thereafter, a suspect fired shots from a vehicle into a group of people at Catherine Simmons Avenue. One woman inside a residence was injured and was swiftly transported to the hospital. Fortunately, her injuries are expected to be non-life-threatening. The final shooting occurred at Hillary Circle, where another cyclist was struck but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The nature of these shootings has raised concerns among members of the community, particularly parents whose children enjoy riding bicycles. The fear of random acts of violence has caused some to rethink allowing their children to spend as much time outdoors. The unpredictable nature of these incidents has heightened the apprehension, as it could occur at any time of day.

To investigate these shootings, the CMPD is following up on tips received, analyzing any potential evidence such as surveillance footage. In an effort to gather more information and apprehend the suspect responsible, the Chief of Police has authorized a reward of $10,000 for individuals who provide information leading to an arrest. Community members who may have information about the crimes are urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Tips can be submitted anonymously, and tipsters may also be eligible for a cash reward.

The CMPD is actively pursuing leads and working diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of the community. As investigations continue, residents are urged to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities, and make use of the P3 Tips app to submit tips about crimes.

The CMPD hopes that with the community's assistance, the perpetrator of these shootings will be swiftly brought to justice, bringing relief to the affected neighborhoods and ensuring the safety of all residents.
