In a recent interview on ESPN's "College GameDay," former Alabama coach turned analyst Nick Saban weighed in on Ohio State's highly valued roster, cautioning that success hinges on paying the right athletes.

Saban's remarks were in response to Ohio State Athletic Director, Ross Bjork, who estimated the football team's roster cost to be a staggering $20 million in a summer interview with Yahoo Sports. This figure reflects both Coach Ryan Day's talent recruitment strategies and the university's commitment to strengthening the team's performance following three consecutive losses to Michigan.

While the recent expansion to a 12-team playoff system increases Ohio State's chances of securing a spot in the postseason, the pressure will intensify if they fail to defeat their arch-rivals for the fourth time in five years under Day's leadership.

However, on paper at least, Ohio State seems to be investing in the right players. Prominent contributors such as wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, running back TreVeyon Henderson, defensive end Jack Sawyer, and cornerback Denzel Burke have chosen to return for another season rather than entering the NFL draft. Furthermore, the Buckeyes have made notable acquisitions in the transfer portal, including quarterback Will Howard and star safety Caleb Downs. Additionally, Ohio State secured the fifth-ranked recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports, with standout receiver Jeremiah Smith as a key highlight.

Ohio State's highly anticipated season will kick off at home against Akron on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Fans eagerly await the outcome and anticipate the team's ability to balance their significant investment with on-field success.

As Saban emphasized, if Ohio State wishes to reach new heights, they must pay the right players and make strategic decisions when it comes to team investments. Failure to do so may result in the Buckeyes being left scrambling for success in an increasingly competitive college football landscape.
