Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault, in connection with a high-speed crash that occurred last month. According to an arrest-warrant affidavit obtained by The Dallas Morning News, Rice was driving at a staggering speed of 119 miles per hour in the moments leading up to the collision, which involved multiple vehicles and resulted in injuries to at least seven people.

The incident took place on March 30 in the 6600 block of North Central Expressway, between Lovers Lane and University Boulevard. Rice, who has admitted to driving one of the two high-end sports cars involved, was booked into a DeSoto jail after turning himself in to Glenn Heights police. He has since posted bond and been released.

Authorities have stated that both Rice's Lamborghini Urus and a Chevrolet Corvette were engaged in reckless driving, making aggressive maneuvers in an attempt to navigate through traffic. The collision occurred when both vehicles took faulty evasive action to avoid hitting a sedan and other cars, culminating in a chain-reaction crash involving three additional vehicles within seconds.

The arrest-warrant affidavit reveals that the Lamborghini Urus was traveling at 119 miles per hour just 4.5 seconds before the collision, while the Corvette had reached a speed of 116 miles per hour 7.5 seconds prior to the crash. However, the Corvette had slowed down to 91 miles per hour about 1.5 seconds before impact. The speed limit on that stretch of road was 70 miles per hour.

"This reckless driving put multiple people at risk of loss of life and serious injury," wrote the police in the affidavit, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

Following the crash, Rice and four other individuals were observed on video leaving the scene without stopping to provide assistance or share their information with the injured parties. While Rice's attorney, State Senator Royce West, stated that his client was not attempting to evade responsibility, no explanation was provided for his departure from the scene.

The suspected driver of the Chevrolet Corvette, SMU cornerback Theodore "Teddy" Knox, is also facing the same eight charges as Rice and turned himself in to Glenn Heights police on Friday. The university has suspended Knox from the football team following the revelation of his alleged involvement.

The victims of the crash suffered various injuries, as per the affidavit. One individual experienced bodily injury to the head, neck, and back, while another had injuries to the head, neck, shoulders, torso, hip, and foot. Additionally, a 3-year-old passenger suffered stomach injuries causing pain, and a driver sustained serious bodily injury to the face, head, torso, and leg, requiring stitches and leading to post-concussion symptoms.

The case has drawn attention from attorney Marc Lenahan, who represents one of the victims. Expressing shock at the high speeds of 119 and 116 miles per hour on the evening before Easter, Lenahan emphasized the extreme recklessness and disregard for human life displayed in the incident.

Rice and Knox have met with investigators and are now facing the legal consequences of their alleged involvement in the crash. The impact of this incident goes beyond the football field, underscoring the need for accountability and responsible driving practices for all individuals.
