The New England Patriots are in the midst of a critical period of training camp as they gear up for the upcoming preseason finale. With a blend of game preparation and roster evaluation, the team took to the practice fields on Thursday for an intense session that lasted nearly two-and-a-half hours.

Several players were limited or unable to participate in practice. Linebacker Joshua Uche was limited, while offensive tackle Vederian Lowe, tight end Hunter Henry, linebacker/safety Marte Mapu, linebacker Oshane Ximines, offensive tackle Calvin Anderson, and defensive lineman Armon Watts were non-participants due to various injuries. Additionally, cornerback Mikey Victor suffered a reported minor oblique injury and was observed receiving medical attention before leaving the field.

The quarterback position remains a focal point for the Patriots, with Jacoby Brissett continuing to lead the offense during practice. Drake Maye, who some hoped would be under center in Week 1, saw an increased number of snaps, likely to prepare him for the preseason finale. Both quarterbacks had their moments, with Maye demonstrating accuracy on a deep crosser to Ja'Lynn Polk and a corner to Austin Hooper. However, he did overshoot K.J. Osborn on a double-move. Brissett faced some challenges early on but rebounded with strong throws over the middle of the field.

Injuries and player movements have necessitated changes to the offensive line. With Vederian Lowe sidelined, Chuks Okorafor shifted back to the left side, which moved Mike Onwenu to right tackle and promoted Layden Robinson as the top right guard. Offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt expressed the team's intention to solidify the best offensive line configuration after the preseason finale on Sunday.

Rookie wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk continues to impress with his performances during practice. He made the most of his opportunities, making five receptions out of six targets, including a highlight-worthy catch on a deep crosser from Maye.

Special teams were also closely watched during Thursday's practice. Punter Bryce Baringer showcased his skills with all nine of his punts being downed inside the 20-yard line, several of which landed inside the five. Kickers Chad Ryland and Joey Slye had mixed performances, with Ryland making an impressive 47-yard kick but struggling to find consistency. Slye had a slightly better day, going 3-of-4 on field goal attempts.

As the Patriots near the end of training camp, they have improved in terms of penalties and substitution errors. However, defensive coordinator Jerod Mayo wasn't satisfied and sent the entire defense on a lap for a pre-snap issue, highlighting the team's commitment to discipline and attention to detail.

The Patriots' final training camp practice is scheduled for Friday at 11:00 a.m. ET, but it will be closed to the public. Fans can rely on Pats Pulpit for comprehensive coverage of the session.
