### Harris and Trump in Tight Presidential Race, With Support from Liz Cheney
As the presidential race enters its final phase, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump find themselves neck-and-neck in crucial battleground states, with just about two weeks left until Election Day. Harris' recent campaign stops in Michigan included addressing the topic of her past employment at McDonald's, a point that has caught Trump's attention after he worked the fryer at a Philadelphia McDonald's over the weekend, casting doubt on Harris' claim of working there during her college years.
Harris has consistently highlighted her experience working at McDonald's between her freshman and sophomore years at Howard University to emphasize her working-class roots in contrast to Trump’s affluent background. In a recent campaign event, Harris gained unexpected support on a key cultural issue from conservative former Rep. Liz Cheney.
Cheney, a critic of Trump since the January 6 Capitol riot, still maintains a strong conservative record. On Monday, she addressed an issue close to Harris's campaign focus, which Democrats hope will rally voters to their side. Speaking in a Philadelphia suburb, Cheney expressed concerns about the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, which overturned federal abortion protections. “In places like Texas, for example, the attorney general is suing to get access to women's medical records. That's not sustainable for us as a country, and it has to change,” Cheney asserted.
Harris is targeting suburban female voters, conducting a series of moderated discussions with Cheney in key battleground states, including Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. This initiative aims to appeal to Republicans dissatisfied with Trump, potentially swaying their vote toward Harris. Both women highlighted the importance of country over party, stressing the risks Trump poses to democracy.
Cheney, who endorsed Harris despite their differing party affiliations, emphasized her belief in Harris's integrity. “Every experience and background element has influenced my decision to support her. We won’t always agree, but I trust that Vice President Harris will do what is right for the country. Her genuine commitment to the nation is why I am honored to be here,” Cheney remarked.
Harris and Cheney's collaboration underscores a significant moment in the campaign, aiming to unify voters around shared democratic values and the pursuit of a just and sustainable future for all Americans.
