North Carolina State quarterback Grayson McCall experienced a harrowing moment on the field during the first half of the game against Wake Forest, as he was carted off on a stretcher following a severe hit. The incident occurred as McCall was running the ball on third down and took a massive blow that resulted in him fumbling. The collision was so intense that McCall's helmet was dislodged, and he appeared to be unconscious upon impact with the ground.

Surprisingly, the hit that incapacitated McCall was not flagged for targeting by the officials. Wake Forest capitalized on the situation by recovering the fumble and returning it 88 yards. This marks another setback for McCall, who was making his first start since September 14, when he played against Louisiana Tech and left due to an undisclosed injury. During that previous incident, McCall left the field with a towel covering his head and did not return.

This incident is McCall's second significant head injury in the span of a year. Previously, in October 2023, while still playing for Coastal Carolina, McCall suffered a concussion after being hit while sliding. This injury prematurely ended his season and subsequently his career at Coastal Carolina. Known for his stellar performance over five years with the Chanticleers, McCall threw for over 10,000 yards and accumulated 88 touchdown passes with just 14 interceptions.

Now with NC State, McCall's current season is clouded with concerns over his health and ability to continue in light of these recurring head injuries. His long-term well-being remains a priority as the team and fans await updates on his condition.
