### MSNBC Hosts Visit Trump at Mar-a-Lago for First Time in Seven Years
In a surprising turn of events, MSNBC's Morning Joe co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski announced their visit to President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago. The announcement, made on their Monday show, marks the first time the pair has seen Trump in seven years.
Scarborough and Brzezinski, who once maintained a friendship with Trump but later became some of his most vocal media critics, met with the former president on Friday. "Joe and I went to Mar-a-Lago to meet personally with president-elect Trump," Brzezinski disclosed. She noted that the discussions covered various contentious topics including abortion, mass deportation, and threats against political opponents and media outlets.
"It's no surprise to anyone who watches our show that we didn't see eye to eye on many issues, and we made that clear to him," Scarborough stated. Brzezinski added that they found common ground in the need to restart communications. She also highlighted that this was their first conversation with Trump since March 2020, save for a personal call Scarborough made to Trump after he survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
President Trump appeared upbeat during the meeting and expressed a desire to find common ground with Democrats on divisive issues. Brzezinski questioned the skepticism about their meeting, arguing it was essential to communicate during such fraught times. "We have always been clear about our concerns regarding President Trump's actions and words, but a new election calls for a new approach," she said. "It's time to not just talk about Donald Trump, but also talk with him."
Scarborough mentioned that Democratic leaders had echoed the need for a new approach since the election. Trump, in a statement to Fox News Digital, described the meeting as "extremely cordial" and appreciated the effort for open communication. He claimed that Scarborough and Brzezinski even congratulated him on his "great and flawless campaign."
The gathering also touched on future appointments for the new administration. Trump noted that while the hosts approved of some choices, they did not agree on all. "The meeting ended very positively, and we agreed to stay in touch," Trump said.
This notable shift in relations between the MSNBC hosts and Trump follows years of intense public criticism. Previously, Trump had promoted a baseless conspiracy theory involving Scarborough and made derogatory tweets about Brzezinski. Scarborough has been vocal about the dangers he believes Trump poses, warning of looming authoritarianism just before the 2024 election.
Trump, however, dismissed allegations of threatening actions against media members, calling Scarborough a "sick puppy" for making such accusations. Despite their tumultuous history, the meeting at Mar-a-Lago suggests a possible opening for future dialogue between the parties.
