The mother of the 14-year-old Georgia teenager charged with the fatal shooting of four individuals at Apalachee High School has been indicted for exploiting an elderly person and other crimes in Ben Hill County. Marcee Gray, 43, was charged on Monday in an unrelated incident to the school shootings that occurred nearly 200 miles away. Marcee Gray is the mother of Colt Gray, who surrendered to police at the high school on September 4, bringing an assault-style rifle in his backpack and opening fire, resulting in the death of two students and two teachers, with nine others injured.

The indictment against Marcee Gray stems from an alleged domestic incident late last year, where she reportedly took her 74-year-old mother's phone, taped her to a chair, and left her alone for almost a day. Following this, Gray traveled to confront her ex-husband in Barrow County. She was arrested in Barrow County on November 6, after her mother was found. Gray pleaded guilty to charges of criminal trespassing, using a license plate to disguise her car, and causing property damage, resulting in a 45-day jail sentence.

Messages left for Marcee Gray have not been returned, and it is unclear if she has legal representation at this time. Following the tragic incident at Apalachee High School, Marcee Gray stated that she had called the school that morning to issue a warning after receiving a concerning text message from her son, Colt Gray. She later made a statement in defense of her son, stating that he is "not a monster." Colt Gray's father, Colin Gray, is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children for providing his son access to the rifle used in the school shootings.
