### Mother and Boyfriend Charged in Death of Missing Wisconsin Toddler
The tragic case of a missing Wisconsin toddler, Elijah Vue, has taken a significant turn as his mother, Katrina Baur, and her boyfriend, Jesse Vang, face serious charges following the discovery of the boy's remains. Elijah had vanished for nearly seven months before his remains were found in early September, just over 3 miles northwest of where he was initially reported missing.
Court records reveal that Jesse Vang, who was the caretaker when Elijah disappeared, is confronting multiple charges, including physical abuse of a child resulting in death, hiding a corpse, and obstructing an officer. Katrina Baur is charged with chronic neglect of a child resulting in death, child neglect, and two counts of obstructing an officer.
Before these new charges, both Vang and Baur had pleaded not guilty to felony child neglect and other accusations related to incidents prior to Elijah's disappearance. CNN has reached out to their attorneys for comments on these latest developments.
At his initial court appearance, Vang's cash bond was set at $500,000, while Baur's was set at $400,000. Both remain in custody. Manitowoc County District Attorney Jacqueline Labrie emphasized the justice system's commitment to ensuring a fair process and seeking justice for Elijah during a news conference on Thursday.
The devastating timeline began on February 20, when Vang reported Elijah missing. He told police that Elijah's absence was noticed after Vang awoke from a nap at his home. On September 7, a hunter made the grim discovery of Elijah's remains in the woods. The chief medical examiner of Fond du Lac County later classified Elijah's death as "homicide by unspecified means."
Elijah would have celebrated his fourth birthday this past August, a somber milestone mentioned by the Two Rivers Police Department.
