In a press conference held on Sunday morning in London, Mets owner Steve Cohen expressed optimism about the club's future, dismissing any immediate Trade Deadline decisions that could impact the team's short- and long-term prospects.

Cohen, who attended the final game of the London Series at London Stadium, addressed the focus on the upcoming Trade Deadline, stating, "Forgetting the Mets, all anybody wants to talk about in the season -- it's not the season. It's the Trade Deadline. It's going to come, guys. I'm telling you, it's going to come. It will be here shortly. But in the meanwhile, I'm going to focus on winning games."

When questioned about the possibility of authorizing a selloff of players on expiring contracts, similar to last year's trades of Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, Cohen remained cautious. He emphasized that pursuing such a strategy may not necessarily guarantee the Mets a strong return.

Among the notable Mets players with expiring contracts are Pete Alonso, J.D. Martinez, and Luis Severino. Currently, the Mets hold a 27-36 record, which is three games worse than their performance at this point last season. Despite this, Cohen revealed that he has yet to engage in Trade Deadline strategy discussions with president of baseball operations David Stearns.

Highlighting the Mets' standing in the playoff race, Cohen acknowledged, "What are we, four games out of the Wild Card? We shouldn't be proud of that, right? We're still nine games under [.500]. But it gives you the opportunity to make the season a success. And so that's the way I'm looking at it."

Cohen, whose Point72 financial firm maintains a permanent office in London, also shared his admiration for the city and its culinary scene. He praised London, stating, "I love London. I think the food here is fantastic. I think it's better than [the food in] New York."

As the Trade Deadline approaches, Mets fans eagerly await any potential moves or decisions made by Cohen and the Mets organization. For now, Cohen remains committed to focusing on winning games and steering the team towards success.
