In an exciting development for Pennsylvania politics, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker has officially endorsed Governor Josh Shapiro to be Vice President Kamala Harris' potential running mate. The announcement came during a rally organized by the Philadelphia Building Trades & Construction Council, where Mayor Parker expressed her belief that Shapiro would be a valuable partner to the city of Philadelphia.

Mayor Parker's endorsement is not the only show of support for Governor Shapiro. Over 50 influential Pennsylvania labor leaders have also signed a letter endorsing Shapiro as a potential running mate for Vice President Harris. The letter, addressed to their "Democratic Brothers and Sisters," highlights Shapiro's strong track record and leadership qualities.

Meanwhile, another significant endorsement comes from former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama. In a video shared on social media, Vice President Harris is seen receiving a call from the Obamas backstage at a campaign event. It is worth noting that the exact timing of the call remains unknown, other than Barack Obama mentioning that it occurred "earlier this week."

In counter to the endorsements, President Donald Trump is planning to return to Pennsylvania for a rally next week. This will be his first visit to the state since a failed assassination attempt against him during an open-air campaign rally in Butler, Pa., where he narrowly escaped injury. The upcoming rally is poised to energize his supporters in the state.

However, in a surprising move, President Trump has backed out of a scheduled debate with Vice President Harris that was supposed to take place in September. Trump cited Harris not being the official Democratic nominee as the reason for his decision, despite her securing enough delegates and having no challengers.

In another twist, a Philadelphia-based group called "Haley Voters for Harris" has emerged, urging former Nikki Haley supporters to throw their support behind Vice President Harris' candidacy instead of Donald Trump. However, Nikki Haley, a former Republican presidential candidate, has distanced herself from this group and is not endorsing Harris.

On the Education front, a network of over two dozen public education advocacy groups has published a letter urging Vice President Harris not to select Governor Shapiro as her running mate. Their main concern stems from Shapiro's support for private school vouchers, which they view as detrimental to public education. Shapiro's willingness to compromise on this issue has raised doubts among these advocates.

As the race for the Vice Presidency heats up, the support and endorsements for potential running mates are crucial indicators of their appeal and potential impact on the campaign. With Mayor Parker, labor leaders, and the Obamas endorsing Governor Shapiro, it remains to be seen how these endorsements will shape the political landscape in Pennsylvania.
