Maya Rudolph Set to Reprise Kamala Harris Impersonation on "Saturday Night Live" 50th Season Premiere

Comedian Maya Rudolph is gearing up for a busy fall as she prepares to return to the iconic sketch comedy show, "Saturday Night Live" (SNL). Rudolph is set to reprise her acclaimed portrayal of Democratic vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris for at least the first few episodes of SNL's 50th season.

The news of Rudolph's return to SNL quickly made waves, not only among her friends, family, and coworkers, but also among real estate agents in New York City. Living in Los Angeles, Rudolph disclosed that she has already received numerous messages from realtors in the Big Apple. One incident, in particular, stood out when a lady across a parking lot excitedly shouted, "Getting ready for New York?!"

Rudolph's portrayal of Kamala Harris garnered extensive praise and earned her an Emmy in 2020. According to the multi-talented comedian, the key to capturing Harris's essence lies in emphasizing her playful side. Rudolph explained, "When I see her, I see her having fun. So the fictional Kamala that we created tapped into her fun." The term "fun aunt" became synonymous with Harris, thanks to 'SNL' producer Steve Higgins, which became a defining characteristic in Rudolph's portrayal.

Interestingly, this isn't the first time Rudolph has attempted to impersonate a politician on SNL. Back in 2007, she briefly tried her hand at impersonating Barack Obama at the producers' request, but the sketch didn't make it onto the show. The situation turned even more awkward when Obama himself was present on set for a cameo appearance. Rudolph recalled the moment with amusement, saying, "Sadly, Obama was there and had to see me dressed as him. We both laughed heartily, and thank God that never made it to air."

As anticipation builds for the 50th season premiere of "Saturday Night Live," viewers can look forward to witnessing Rudolph's lively depiction of Kamala Harris once again. The season premiere is scheduled for September 28, where Rudolph will undoubtedly bring her comedic brilliance to the forefront, breathing life into the beloved character of the Democratic vice-presidential nominee.
