In a recent incident in the Hamptons, Romy Lauer, the daughter of former Today co-anchor Matt Lauer, reportedly crashed her Jeep Wrangler into a fence and a sign before leaving the scene before authorities arrived. According to Page Six, the local police were able to identify Romy as the driver as they found the license plate from her car, which had fallen off during the accident.
The incident took place on July 5, when a concerned citizen called 911 in the early hours to report a loud crash on North Sea Mecox Road. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities discovered a damaged fence and sign, but Romy was nowhere to be found. Following their investigation, Romy has since been issued a summons for leaving the scene of an accident.
Attorney Edward Burke Jr., known for representing high-end and celebrity clients, including Matt Lauer himself, is currently involved in resolving the case on behalf of Romy. It is reported that Burke has been hired to assist in navigating the legal aspects of the incident.
This is not the first time that Burke has been involved in defending high-profile clients. Earlier this summer, he represented the singer Justin Timberlake, who was arrested on DWI-related charges in Sag Harbor. Timberlake allegedly ran a stop sign, failed to stay on the right side of the road, and showed signs of impairment during sobriety tests.
Following his arrest, Timberlake released a statement through Burke, expressing his intention to vigorously defend himself against the allegations. The attorney emphasized Timberlake's readiness to address the situation at the appropriate time.
As for Romy's case, it remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold in the coming weeks. Although leaving the scene of an accident can result in serious consequences, Romy and her legal representative will likely work towards resolving the matter and potentially reaching a resolution outside of court.
Matt Lauer, who faced controversy and was fired from Today in 2017 due to sexual misconduct allegations, has yet to comment on the incident involving his daughter. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by the Lauer family.
