In a shocking turn of events, a massive arms depot located approximately 240 miles west of Moscow was reportedly targeted in an alleged drone attack on Wednesday. The explosion from the attack was so powerful that it caused an earthquake-like blast and forced the evacuation of thousands of people from the surrounding area.

While Ukrainian officials have not claimed responsibility for the attack, sources within the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have reportedly confirmed the incident. Military bloggers and local officials have also pointed to Ukrainian drones being shot down over the Tver region in Russia, where the targeted military arsenal was situated.

The intensity of the attack was picked up by NASA satellites, which detected sources of intense heat emanating from an approximate five-square-mile area. Additionally, a weak 2.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Tver region, resulting in light shaking near the epicenter. This region is located just 55 miles from the border with Belarus.

Governor Igor Rudenya of the Tver region acknowledged a fire outbreak and the shooting down of Ukrainian drones, although he did not confirm the nature of what was ablaze, according to Reuters. As a precautionary measure, some residents of the area were evacuated. Reports from East2West suggest that around 3,000 Russians fled the region.

Regarding official comments, Ukraine's military intelligence agency, GUR, could not be reached for immediate response by Fox News Digital. On the other hand, Russian defense units have claimed to have destroyed 54 drones launched across five Russian regions. However, there was no mention from Moscow regarding any drone strikes in the Tver region, leaving the origin of the drone attacks launched by Ukraine unclear.

The explosions occurred in the town of Toropets, which is located around 480 miles from Kursk in southwest Russia, where Ukrainian forces invaded last month. Notably, it is also approximately 400 miles from Ukraine's northernmost border with Russia.

In recent months, Ukraine has intensified its attacks against Moscow, targeting military installations within its borders. Kyiv has been urging the United States and its NATO allies to grant permission to use Western-supplied long-range missiles to hit deeper military targets in Russia. However, the restrictions on such strikes have not been lifted.

The fact that Ukraine was able to target a high-security military site using drones without detection, hundreds of miles into Russian territory, raises questions about the effectiveness of Russian defense systems and the capabilities of Ukrainian forces.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, with both Ukraine and Russia remaining tight-lipped on the matter. The international community will undoubtedly be closely watching to see how this incident impacts the already tense relations between Ukraine and Russia.
