Four key operatives of the Republican gubernatorial campaign for North Carolina, led by Mark Robinson, have stepped down, as announced by the campaign on Sunday. These resignations come on the heels of a CNN report that unveiled inflammatory remarks made by Robinson on a pornographic website over a decade ago. Conrad Pogorzelski III, Chris Rodriguez, Heather Whillier, and Jason Rizk have all departed from their roles within Robinson's campaign.
The CNN report revealed disturbing comments made by Robinson on a pornography website message board, where he referred to himself as a "black Nazi" and recounted engaging in inappropriate behavior at a gym as a teenager. Despite Robinson's denial of making these comments during an interview with CNN, the evidence connecting him to the username used on the website suggests his involvement. The remarks touched on sensitive topics such as race, gender, and abortion, including support for reinstating slavery and expressing contradictory views on transgender issues.
In response to the controversy, the North Carolina Republican Party has stood by Robinson, emphasizing their support for the candidate. While some Republicans in the state have called for Robinson to withdraw from the race, the deadline for him to do so has passed. Notably, Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign has seized on Robinson's association with former President Donald Trump in a recent ad.Despite the tumult within his campaign and calls for his resignation, Robinson has affirmed his determination to remain in the gubernatorial race, asserting confidence in the support from North Carolina voters.
