Manhunt Underway in Kentucky after Gunman Opens Fire near Interstate 75

Kentucky authorities are currently conducting a widespread manhunt for a suspected gunman who allegedly opened fire near Interstate 75, injuring several individuals and causing a car accident. The incident took place on Saturday evening near exit 49 along I-75, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff's Office, a small silver colored SUV, registered to the alleged suspect Joseph A. Couch, was discovered off a U.S. Forest Service Road near exit 49 on Saturday evening. Inside the vehicle, authorities found a rifle case, further heightening concerns over the suspect's intentions.

In the midst of the ongoing manhunt, sheriff's deputies made another significant discovery on Sunday afternoon. Near Interstate 75, in the vicinity of the previously recovered SUV, a rifle was found, adding to the growing evidence against Couch.

Initial reports indicated that the suspect had been shooting at drivers from either an overpass or a wooded area. However, the exact details of the incident are still under investigation. Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, spokesperson for the sheriff's office, confirmed that five individuals had been shot and were in stable condition as of early Sunday. However, some of the victims sustained severe injuries, with one person being shot in the face. Additionally, two others were injured in the resulting vehicle accident.

The search efforts were temporarily halted on Saturday due to darkness, but the scene was secured and contained overnight. Authorities resumed the search on Sunday, and it is currently ongoing. The recovery of the suspect's vehicle and rifle have provided valuable leads for law enforcement as they continue their efforts to apprehend Couch.

In a Facebook post, the Laurel County Sheriff's Office released photos of the recovered vehicle off exit 49 along I-75, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any information that may aid in the investigation.

As the manhunt intensifies, authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of Joseph A. Couch's whereabouts or any additional information regarding the incident to come forward. The safety of the community remains a top priority as law enforcement works to bring the alleged gunman to justice.
