In an unfortunate incident that occurred on Wednesday, a man was fatally shot by officers at an apartment complex in southwest Austin, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). The incident took place in the 6600 block of West William Cannon Drive, near Vega Avenue.

The Austin Police Department (APD) reported that the shooting took place when officers were serving a warrant at the apartment complex with the assistance of U.S. Marshals. Upon realizing the presence of law enforcement, the suspect, who has not been identified, fled the scene in a blue Honda Accord and collided with a law enforcement vehicle. Subsequently, he stopped in the median and confronted officers with a weapon, prompting them to use lethal force, as stated by the DPS.

Tragically, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, and no information regarding his identity has been provided by officials at this time. The exact number of officers involved in the incident remains undisclosed, as well as whether anyone else was injured during the confrontation.

The Texas Rangers, in conjunction with DPS, is leading the investigation into the incident. The APD has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and has issued a request for the public to avoid the area surrounding William Cannon Drive. Street closures are expected due to the ongoing investigation.
