A man wanted for felony murder in connection with a car theft and fatal hit-and-run near Montclair has been apprehended by authorities in Virginia Beach. The suspect, identified as Keith Anthony McBride, 41, was taken into custody on Friday, following the issuance of warrants earlier in the day by Prince William County police.
The charges against McBride include felony murder, felony hit and run, and grand larceny auto, according to Prince William County police Lieutenant Jonathan Perok. Surveillance images captured the suspect stealing a car in the Montclair area before fatally injuring the owner.
The incident occurred on July 20 at the Oasis at Montclair Apartment complex in the 16400 block of Stedham Circle. Jose Vasquez Galvan, 37, of Dumfries, was approached by an unknown man in the parking lot. The suspect quickly got into Galvan's gold SUV and began driving in reverse. Galvan, who was outside the vehicle at the time, attempted to hold onto the SUV as it struck another unoccupied car and then moved forward, throwing him off and ultimately running him over.
Following the heinous crime, the suspect fled the scene in the stolen SUV before law enforcement arrived. However, on Tuesday, police located the stolen vehicle in a Dale City neighborhood.
Authorities have determined that car theft was the motive behind the incident, stating that there is currently no known connection between the victim and the accused. Prince William County police have confirmed that no other suspects are being sought in relation to the investigation.
McBride, who resides in the 7600 block of Helmsdale Place in Manassas, reportedly had a history of criminal charges filed against him in both Prince William and Fairfax counties. These charges include grand theft auto and eluding police offenses, dating back to June.
The arrest of Keith Anthony McBride in Virginia Beach brings some closure to the tragic hit-and-run incident near Montclair. As the investigation continues, authorities will work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice is served for the victim, Jose Vasquez Galvan.
