In a major breakthrough, authorities have apprehended a suspect believed to be responsible for the tragic death of a Maryland parole agent in Chevy Chase. Montgomery County police confirmed on Saturday that 54-year-old Emanuel Edward Sewell was taken into custody near Hurricane, West Virginia.

Sewell, a registered sex offender, was intercepted by U.S. Marshals Task force officers during a routine traffic stop on Interstate 64. Following his arrest, he will be extradited back to Montgomery County to face charges.

The victim, identified as 33-year-old Davis Martinez, was found with multiple injuries at an apartment on Terrace Drive. Martinez had gone to the location to "conduct a resident check" on Sewell. The exact cause of Martinez's death has not been disclosed by authorities.

During a press conference, Police Chief Marcus Jones expressed condolences to Martinez's family and the law enforcement community. He emphasized the daily risks officers face in ensuring the safety of communities.

According to police reports, officers had responded to Terrace Drive on Friday evening after Martinez failed to report back to work following his visit to Sewell's residence. Upon entering the apartment, they discovered Martinez's lifeless body.
