Shelby Township, MI - A chaotic scene unfolded at Johnny Black's Taphouse on Schoenherr Road late Wednesday night as a man deliberately slammed his truck into several parked cars in the restaurant's parking lot. The incident, captured on video, narrowly missed injuring a bystander who managed to leap out of harm's way just in time.
The suspect behind the wheel, identified as Ervin Smajlaj of Sterling Heights, has been apprehended and now faces charges, according to Shelby Township police. Authorities are currently investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the reckless act.
Despite the vehicular mayhem, there were no reported injuries. However, multiple cars suffered damage as a result of the intentional collisions. Edward Firestine, the managing partner of Johnny Black's Taphouse, expressed relief that the incident did not escalate further, stating, "It could have been much worse. For as crazy as it was, at least no one was hurt. There was vehicle damage, which isn't very good, but that can be repaired."
Police remain diligent in their investigation, determined to ascertain the motive behind Smajlaj's destructive rampage. As they continue to gather evidence, the focus remains on determining whether drugs or alcohol played a contributing factor in this shocking incident.
Johnny Black's Taphouse, a popular establishment in the area, will temporarily close while repairs are conducted on the damaged vehicles. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with additional information about the incident is urged to contact the Shelby Township Police Department.
