In an unfortunate turn of events, a man has been taken into custody for the shooting deaths of his two brothers in Highland Park. The Lake County Major Crime Task Force confirmed the arrest on Friday, stating that Jeffrey Austwick allegedly shot his siblings before setting their deceased mother's house on fire.

The tragic incident came to light when firefighters responded to a house fire on Park Avenue West last Wednesday. Upon arrival, first responders discovered the lifeless bodies of 63-year-old Marc Austwick and 60-year-old John Austwick outside the burning home. Autopsy results from the Lake County Coroner's Office revealed that both men had succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigations revealed that the three brothers had convened to discuss the property of their elderly mother, who had passed away just a week prior. However, after Marc and John arrived at the property, Jeffrey allegedly shot them and proceeded to set the house ablaze. He then fled the scene in his vehicle.

After securing a nationwide arrest warrant, authorities successfully apprehended Jeffrey Austwick in St. Louis, Missouri, where he was found in a park around 5:30 a.m. on Friday. The motive for the shooting remains unclear at this time.

Residents near the crime scene expressed relief upon hearing news of the arrest, as the incident has cast an eerie shadow over their neighborhood. The Highland Park home, now boarded up, stood solemnly with the Virgin Mary statue framed by police tape, serving as a chilling reminder of the tragedy that took place within.

Concerning Jeffrey Austwick's relationship with his mother, Phyllis Austwick, neighbors noted that he lived with her and there were occasional strange encounters. In particular, he frequently called the police to complain about a neighbor's dog that allegedly barked too loudly.

While the authorities have assured the community that the shooting was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat, the family, neighbors, and the community as a whole are coming to terms with the tragedy. Jeffrey Austwick is currently in custody in Missouri pending an initial court hearing, while the investigation continues to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event.
