**MacKenzie Scott Continues Generous Giving, Donates Another $8 Billion**

MacKenzie Scott, a billionaire philanthropist known for her swift and unconditional charitable donations, has recently disposed of another 11% of her Amazon shares, which amounts to over $8 billion as of September 30, according to a new filing. This move brings the total number of Amazon shares she has sold or gifted to an impressive 255 million, valued at approximately $37 billion at the time they were transferred.

Scott, who gained around 400 million Amazon shares during her 2019 divorce from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has disposed of roughly two-thirds of her holdings in less than six years. Her commitment to philanthropy has seen her give at least $17.3 billion to nonprofit organizations, placing her among the top five most generous living donors in the United States, as noted by Forbes.

As of now, Forbes estimates Scott’s net worth to be $30 billion, a decrease from $38 billion just last week, and significantly down from her peak net worth of $59 billion in 2021. This estimation is based on the assumption that nearly all the Amazon shares she has parted with have been channeled into donor-advised funds or other charitable entities. Had she retained all her shares, her net worth would be around $82 billion, positioning her among the 20 richest individuals worldwide and the second richest woman.

Scott prefers to let her giving do the talking, offering only a few brief essays on her Yield Giving website. In a December 2022 essay, she emphasized the importance of transparency and the assistance she received from other givers and nonprofit teams, noting the difficulty in designing a website that serves her straightforward intention to share helpful information.

Among the recent beneficiaries of Scott's generosity are the Mni Sota Fund, an organization dedicated to wealth building for urban Native Americans in Minnesota, which received $1.5 million in October; Access to Capital for Entrepreneurs in Georgia, receiving $10 million in August; and Coastal Enterprises in Maine, awarded $15 million in October—a notable second donation from Scott, who usually only provides one-time grants.

Scott values spotlighting the nonprofits rather than herself, allowing each organization to decide whether to publicly announce her donation or keep it confidential, based on what they believe will be most beneficial.

Typically, Scott announces new charitable grants on her Yield Giving website towards the year's end. Given her recent offloading of Amazon shares, it is probable that several nonprofit organizations have benefited from her largesse this year, with the exact figures soon to be revealed. So far, of the approximately $37 billion worth of shares she has disposed of, $17.3 billion has been publicly acknowledged as donations to over 2,300 different charities. The remaining $20 billion likely resides in her charitable accounts or other investments, with the shares already sold.

Scott's unique philanthropic approach involves rarely soliciting grant applications and providing unrestricted cash grants significantly exceeding many small nonprofits' annual budgets. This sometimes leads recipient organizations to initially believe that her calls informing them of donations are spam.

Receiving a gift from Scott can act as a significant endorsement, potentially leading to further funding for smaller charities. For instance, Dianne Calvi, CEO of Village Enterprises, which combats poverty in rural Africa and received $7 million from Scott last year, noted that the donation led to "two really large grants from really important funders" within six months, enhancing their reputation substantially.
