Two flight attendants have filed a civil lawsuit against NFL kicker Brandon McManus and the Jacksonville Jaguars, alleging that McManus sexually assaulted them during a team flight to London last year. The women, identified as Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II, worked for Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings at the time of the alleged incident.
According to the lawsuit filed in Duval County, Florida, the incident occurred on September 28, 2020, during a chartered flight from Florida to England. The flight reportedly turned into a party for McManus and some of his teammates, with the athlete recruiting three flight attendants to join the festivities.
The plaintiffs claim that McManus targeted Jane Doe I because she did not participate in the party. He allegedly attempted to kiss her and groped her on multiple occasions, even while she was serving meals to other passengers. Jane Doe II, the second woman involved in the suit, also accused McManus of inappropriate behavior during the flight.
The victims described feeling "uncomfortable," "ashamed," and "terrified" due to the alleged incidents of sexual assault. Both women reported severe mental anguish and career disruption as a result.
The lawsuit seeks over $1 million in damages and accuses McManus of assault and sexual assault, while also alleging negligence on the part of the Jacksonville Jaguars for failing to enforce a zero-tolerance policy regarding inappropriate behavior and for not creating a safe work environment.
An attorney representing McManus called the allegations "demonstrably false" and referred to them as an extortion attempt. He stated that McManus would vigorously fight to clear his name.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have acknowledged the claims and stated that they are conducting an investigation. The team emphasized their commitment to an organization that embodies the highest character and class.
McManus, who was with the Jaguars at the time but is now a member of the Washington Commanders, has not issued a personal statement regarding the lawsuit. The Commanders, however, expressed awareness of the case and announced that they are looking into the matter.
The attorney representing the flight attendants, Tony Buzbee, stated that prior to filing the lawsuit, attempts were made to resolve the matter outside of court, but those efforts were met with resistance.
The case will proceed to a jury trial, as the plaintiffs seek justice for the alleged harm they endured.
