**Las Vegas Man Sues Riverside County Sheriff Over Arrest at Trump Rally**
A Las Vegas resident, Vem Miller, has initiated a lawsuit following his arrest outside a Donald Trump rally held in California. Miller's legal action, filed in the U.S. District Court for Nevada, targets Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, along with the sheriff's department and the county. Represented by Nevada-based attorney Sigal Chattah, a Republican National Committeewoman, Miller accuses the sheriff of defamation, false statements, and violating his constitutional rights.
The incident occurred at a checkpoint during the rally in the Coachella Valley. Miller was detained by deputies who alleged he was "illegally in possession of a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine." Sheriff Bianco suggested in a subsequent press briefing that Miller's arrests may have thwarted a potential assassination attempt on Trump. He noted that Miller had several forms of ID, an unlicensed vehicle, and ammunition. However, neither the FBI nor the U.S. Secret Service found evidence supporting this claim, and they stated that Trump was never in danger.
According to Miller, the situation unfolded differently. He claimed to have informed deputies about the firearms in his car as a courtesy, only to be ordered out of the vehicle, handcuffed, and his car searched. Miller emphasized that he had been issued "expedited special entry passes" directly from Trump's campaign. Despite cooperating fully, Miller faced accusations that were later disproven.
The lawsuit further alleges that Deputies’ actions were aimed at creating a sensational story at Miller's expense, compromising proper police protocol. It accuses Bianco of perpetuating a false narrative even after federal agencies dismissed the assassination threat, causing significant harm to Miller's reputation and character.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department responded to the allegations with a commitment to transparency and cooperation but refrained from commenting on the specifics due to pending litigation. Miller is seeking general and punitive damages and has called for the dismissal of one of the involved deputies. The case is yet to receive a hearing date.
