**Las Vegas Man Arrested with Loaded Firearm Near Trump's California Rally**
A Las Vegas man was detained by authorities at a security checkpoint near former President Donald Trump's rally in Coachella Valley, California, on Saturday. The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Vem Miller, was reportedly found with a loaded handgun, a shotgun, and a high-capacity magazine in his black SUV.
Miller was apprehended at the intersection of Avenue 52 and Celebration Drive in Coachella. According to a news release from the deputies, Miller was "illegally in possession of a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine." He was taken into custody without any incident and subsequently booked at the John J. Benoit Detention Center on charges related to the possession of the firearm and the high-capacity magazine.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the incident did not pose any threat to the safety of Trump or the rally attendees. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have asked for anyone with additional information to come forward.
This arrest comes in the wake of two recent assassination attempts targeting Trump. In July, a gunman opened fire during Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, injuring the former president and killing an attendee. Secret Service snipers neutralized the gunman. Earlier this month, Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested with an AK-47-style weapon near Trump's Florida golf course and has since been charged with attempted assassination and firearms offenses.
