The 64-year-old actor, whose career came to a halt in 2017 due to allegations of inappropriate behavior, admitted to engaging in behavior that he now realizes was not consensual.
Spacey, a double Oscar winner, clarified that by "pushing the boundaries," he meant touching someone sexually in a way that he didn't realize at the time was unwanted. When questioned about the potential criminal nature of his actions, Spacey denied using the word "grope" but emphasized the importance of communication and understanding consent.
During the interview, Morgan asked Spacey if he understood that a young actor might fear rejecting his advances due to his influence potentially damaging their career. Spacey acknowledged this concern, expressing that he understood the power dynamics involved.
The actor also mentioned that he is prepared to take accountability for his past actions, referring to them as "bad, bad, bad behavior." However, he also claimed that there have been numerous false claims against him.
In May, Spacey denied fresh allegations against him, which were aired in the documentary "Spacey Unmasked." Both actors Ruari Cannon and Danny De Lillo alleged inappropriate behavior by Spacey. Spacey vehemently denied their claims, referring to them as ridiculous and completely offensive.
Following the documentary, a group of Hollywood stars, including Sharon Stone, Stephen Fry, and Liam Neeson, voiced their support for Spacey's return to acting. Stone, praising Spacey as a genius, expressed her anticipation to see him back at work.
It is worth noting that Spacey was acquitted of all charges of sexual assault against four men between 2001 and 2013 in a trial held in London last year. Additionally, a US court dismissed a sexual assault lawsuit against him in 2022. Currently, Spacey is involved in a civil trial regarding an allegation of sexual assault from 2008, which he denies. Moreover, he revealed that his home in Baltimore is being foreclosed and sold at auction due to his inability to pay the substantial legal bills he faces.
Kevin Spacey, known for his roles in films such as American Beauty and The Usual Suspects, had also served as the artistic director at the Old Vic Theatre in London from 2004 to 2015. The theater conducted an investigation in 2017 into alleged misconduct by Spacey during his tenure, but no formal complaints or findings of fact were discovered.
Spacey was terminated from the Netflix series House of Cards during filming when the initial allegations against him came to light in 2017, leading to a pause in his acting career.
