Kansas State baseball got off to a strong start in the NCAA Tournament, crushing Louisiana Tech with a commanding 19-4 victory. The Wildcats, entering as the third seed in the regional round, showcased their offensive prowess with five-run innings in both the second and eighth frames.

With the win, Kansas State now moves on to face the regional host and No. 5 national seed, Arkansas, at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Louisiana Tech, on the other hand, is scheduled to take on Southeast Missouri State in an elimination game at 2 p.m.

The game on Friday witnessed a delay in the first pitch, starting at 8:06 p.m., due to lightning strikes within an 8-mile radius of the stadium. Additionally, a second weather delay occurred during the top of the sixth inning, eventually suspending the game until Saturday at 11 a.m. Kansas State held a comfortable 9-4 lead when play resumed.

Despite the lengthy game duration, Kansas State's coach, Pete Hughes, praised his team's resilience and energy throughout. He commended their focused mindset and their ability to maintain high spirits, especially considering the circumstances.

The upcoming matchup against Arkansas holds significant importance for both teams. The Razorbacks secured a convincing 17-9 victory over the Redhawks in the tournament opener. Hagen Smith is set to take the mound for Arkansas, aiming to propel his team to the regional championship.

The winner of the double-elimination regional will advance to the super regionals and face the victor of the Charlottesville Regional, hosted by the 12th-overall seed, Virginia.

In terms of performance statistics, Kansas State and Arkansas, despite their average batting rankings among NCAA Tournament teams, combined for an impressive 36 runs. Kansas State's offensive strategy relied on small ball tactics, leveraging their 10th-most stolen bases in the country to add five more to their tally against Louisiana Tech. Additionally, the Wildcats managed to hit five home runs, including two from Chuck Ingram, their 9-hole hitter.

A standout moment came from Kansas State shortstop Kaelen Culpepper, who achieved the rare feat of hitting for the cycle. Culpepper completed the cycle with a home run in his final at-bat, marking the first time he achieved this feat in his college career. Coach Hughes expressed his delight and praised Culpepper's deserving success, calling it an enjoyable moment to be a part of.

With the stage set for their matchup against Arkansas, Kansas State aims to carry the momentum from their dominant opening game and continue their pursuit of a successful run in the NCAA Tournament.
