Dallas police have initiated a new criminal investigation into Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice following an alleged assault that took place at a Dallas nightclub on Monday morning, according to the Dallas Morning News. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on the 600 block of North Harwood Street in Downtown Dallas, after which the victim, although not seriously injured, drove himself to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
At this time, no charges or arrests have been made in connection with the assault. However, Rice is already facing serious legal troubles as he is charged with eight felonies for his involvement in a high-speed hit-and-run crash that occurred in late March on Central Expressway. The crash, in which Rice and SMU cornerback Teddy Knox were allegedly speeding at over 115 miles per hour, resulted in injuries to four individuals.
Following the collision, both Rice and Knox, along with their passengers, reportedly fled the scene. Photos obtained by TMZ Sports showcased the two athletes leaving the site of the crash. Knox, too, was arrested and charged for his participation in the incident.
Meanwhile, the victims of the Dallas chain-reaction crash filed a lawsuit against Rice and Knox, seeking $10 million in damages. The lawsuit highlights the consequences of the crash and holds both athletes accountable for their alleged involvement.
FOX 4 reached out to Rice's lawyer and the Kansas City Chiefs for their comments on the ongoing investigations, but no response has been received thus far.
The investigations into both the assault and the hit-and-run crash continue, and it remains to be seen how these legal matters will unfold for Rice and Knox.
