Kamala Harris's campaign team took a bold step by mockingly calling out former President Donald Trump after he declined to participate in a second televised presidential debate with the vice president on CNN this fall. Despite Harris's acceptance to partake in a second debate against her Republican opponent on October 23, Trump refused, citing that the invitation came "too late."
The campaign team, known as Kamala HQ, utilized social media to ridicule Trump's decision, sharing a video of the former president discussing his first debate with President Joe Biden. In the video, Trump praised the fairness of the CNN-hosted debate, only to reject the opportunity for a second debate in a recent speech in North Carolina, stating, "It's just too late."
Trump defended his stance by highlighting that voting had already commenced in numerous states with early in-person voting options available. Despite Harris's public call for Trump to engage in the debate on the proposed date, his reluctance persists due to the timing of the invitation.
Jen O'Malley Dillon, campaign chair for Harris and Tim Walz, emphasized the significance of multiple debates in providing voters with a comprehensive view of the candidates and their aspirations for the nation, urging Trump to reconsider his decision. With no commitment from Trump as of now, the uncertainty surrounding a potential second debate continues to linger as the election date draws nearer.
