### JD Vance Refuses to Label Putin as an "Enemy," Advocates for Diplomacy

Ohio Senator JD Vance has made headlines by refraining from categorizing Russian President Vladimir Putin as an "enemy," instead describing him as an "adversary" and a "competitor." During an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press," Vance emphasized the importance of smart diplomacy, stating, "Just because we don't like somebody, doesn't mean that we can't occasionally engage in conversations with them."

These remarks came in response to a direct question from moderator Kristen Welker regarding Vance's stance on Putin. Vance highlighted the necessity of negotiations to potentially resolve the ongoing war in Ukraine, which he believes would require engagement between Ukraine, Russia, and NATO allies.

In the same interview, Vance addressed remarks made by former Vice President Mike Pence, who previously claimed that former President Donald Trump had asked him to prioritize Trump over his constitutional oath. Vance clarified his own position by asserting, "Of course my loyalty is to the American people and to the United States Constitution." He further argued that there is no inconsistency between supporting Trump and upholding the Constitution, stating, "That's why I'm out there trying to persuade my fellow Americans that Donald Trump's presidency worked for them, and I'd like us to get back to those smart policies."

Vance reiterated his confidence in Trump's commitment to the Constitution during a separate discussion on CBS's "Face the Nation." He assured viewers that Trump would adhere to constitutional principles if elected for a third term, expressing concern that, in his view, Kamala Harris has negatively impacted the economy. "I think that Donald Trump believes in the American Constitution. I know he does. I've seen it in his actions. I've talked to him about it," Vance remarked.

Furthermore, Vance dismissed recent criticisms from former members of Trump's administration, including John Kelly and Mark Milley. He questioned their claims about Trump's fitness for office by referencing the peace and prosperity he believes Trump delivered during his presidency. Vance also accused the Department of Justice, under the current administration, of targeting political opponents, a statement he stood by even as Welker pushed back for lack of evidence.

The discussions around these controversial points did not prompt immediate responses from the Harris campaign, the White House, or the Department of Justice. Vance categorized Kelly as a "disgruntled ex-employee," pointing out that many who worked closely with Trump are endorsing his current ticket.
