**Jay Leno Advocates for Unity Following Election Results**
During a recent appearance on "The Talk," Jay Leno expressed his continued disapproval of newly-reelected President Donald Trump, but he also highlighted the significance of a fair election, which he believes marks a positive day for democracy. The former late-night host shared his thoughts on the changes in political comedy over the years.
Host Natalie Morales asked Leno about his experiences covering elections during his tenure on "The Tonight Show." Leno remarked on how the approach to political satire has shifted, suggesting that comedians now often feel compelled to choose sides. "In my day, you kind of made fun of both sides...now you kind of have to take a side and yeah, it's a little bit different," he commented.
Despite his reservations about Trump, Leno emphasized the integrity of the recent election. "The nice thing about this election is, it was fair, it was honest. Okay, I was not a fan, but that's okay. It's the President of the United States," he stated. In a call for national unity, Leno urged Americans to come together post-election, concerned about the potential for continued division and name-calling.
Reflecting on his earlier remarks this year, Leno pointed out his moral objections to Trump, separate from political disagreements. He noted the various indictments against Trump and advocated for higher ethical standards in leadership. Concluding his comments on "The Talk," Leno reaffirmed, "There was no cheating. Everybody says it was honest. It's a great day for democracy."
