**Jack Del Rio Resigns as Wisconsin Football Adviser Following DUI Arrest**
In a significant development for Wisconsin’s football program, Jack Del Rio has decided to step down from his role as a senior adviser. This decision comes in the wake of his arrest on charges of driving under the influence, confirmed head coach Luke Fickell.
Speaking at a press conference, Fickell stated, “He's going to move forward and he's going to resign and move on. It's a tough situation, decisions that all of us have to be able to take full responsibility for. So that's what Jack will do and we'll continue to move forward.”
According to a police report from Madison, Wisconsin, the 61-year-old Del Rio was involved in an incident early Friday morning where the vehicle he was driving collided with a street sign, broke a fence, and ended up in a yard. Officers reportedly found Del Rio walking away from the scene, exhibiting signs of impairment.
In response, Wisconsin’s athletic department issued a statement emphasizing the gravity with which they treat such matters, noting that they are ongoing in their information gathering process.
Coach Fickell, who has led the Badgers to a 5-4 standing this season, expressed the program’s desire to stay focused on their current objectives. "We've got a few weeks left in the season, a lot of things to continue to fight for and nobody wants to take away from that, whether it's me or Jack or anybody within our football program," he said.
Del Rio, who had joined Wisconsin ahead of the 2024 season, brought with him extensive experience, having served as the defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders until his departure in November 2023. His NFL coaching career included stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Oakland Raiders, where he compiled a 93-94 record as a head coach, as well as roles with the Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens, and New Orleans Saints.
Prior to his coaching career, Del Rio was a notable linebacker at USC and played 11 seasons in the NFL, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 1994.
