### Two Israeli Embassy Staff Fatally Shot in Washington D.C.
In a tragic incident on Wednesday night, two employees of the Israeli Embassy were shot and killed as they exited the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. The victims, including an Israeli diplomat and another embassy employee, were attending an event when they were attacked, officials disclosed.
The victims were reportedly targeted as they left the museum. Two sources familiar with the ongoing investigation confirmed that the suspect believed to have committed the shooting is currently in custody. Eyewitnesses reported that the shooter shouted "free Palestine" before opening fire.
The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. local time on F Street, in the vicinity of the FBI's field office. Emergency medical services responded quickly, finding the victims with gunshot wounds, unconscious and not breathing. Despite efforts, the lives of the two embassy employees could not be saved.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced the heartbreaking news on social media, describing the attack as senseless. Additionally, Israeli Embassy spokesperson Tal Naim Cohen confirmed the tragic deaths. It has been noted that other Israeli Embassy employees attending the event also sustained injuries, although the exact number has yet to be confirmed.
Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, indicated through a social media post that the shooting happened "outside the event that took place at the Jewish Museum.” He mentioned two other embassy employees were wounded, but these details are still awaiting official confirmation.
The incident has prompted a swift and coordinated response from law enforcement agencies. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel both made public statements about the shooting. Patel emphasized that the FBI is working alongside the Metropolitan Police Department to investigate the incident thoroughly.
This violent attack comes as a devastating loss to the Israeli Embassy community and raises concerns over the safety and security of diplomatic staff in foreign countries.
