As tensions between Iran and Israel continue to escalate, Iranians are expressing concern and frustration over the lack of information and preparation provided by their government. Amidst a government-announced shutdown and limited government office hours, there have been no directives issued to the public on how to prepare for potential hostilities.

On Wednesday, all government agencies and offices in Tehran were closed, and in 13 provinces, including some along the borders, government office hours were limited to just four hours. In addition, a notice was issued to civilian aviation, warning of gunfire taking place over parts of the country on Wednesday night and into Thursday.

The escalating rhetoric from Iranian officials, promising a severe response to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, has left Iranians anxious and confused. Many Iranians feel they are being kept in the dark, relying on satellite television news programs for information, as government officials remain tight-lipped.

There is growing concern among citizens about the lack of public safety instructions in the event of counterstrikes from Israel. Iranians have not been informed about temporary shelters, air raid drills, warnings to stock up on emergency supplies, or contingency plans for hospitals. This lack of preparation has left Iranians feeling abandoned and anxious about their safety.

On social media and in interviews, Iranians have voiced their frustrations and fears. Some have expressed thoughts of immigrating due to the current situation, while others question the necessity of a full-scale war, believing it will likely be a remote war targeting specific targets.

The ongoing turmoil in Iran, coupled with recent events such as a terrorist attack claimed by ISIS and exchanges of missile strikes with neighboring countries, has taken an emotional toll on the Iranian people. The deteriorating currency and stock market plunge have only added to their concerns.

Internally, Iran also faces domestic challenges, like the widely circulated video showing female police officers beating and forcibly removing teenage girls for not wearing the hijab. Many Iranians are calling on President Masoud Pezeshkian to fulfill his promise to end the mandatory hijab enforcement.

While some political analysts in Iran caution against rushing into a conflict that could quickly spiral out of control, there is a sense that dissenting voices are not being heard. One reformist voice, Ahmad Zeidabadi, pointed out that in Iran, public figures who advocate cautious actions are often accused of supporting Zionism and being in cahoots with America.

The lack of information provided to the Iranian public regarding preparedness for potential hostilities with Israel has heightened concerns and increased uncertainty. Iranians are left grappling with anxiety and frustration as they navigate through these tumultuous times, longing for clarity and security in the face of mounting tensions.
