In a recent announcement, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards revealed that its navy has acquired new cruise missiles equipped with highly explosive warheads that are undetectable. The country's most powerful security organization made this declaration amid rising concerns of a potential full-blown Middle East conflict, following Iran's vow to avenge the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the Palestinian Islamist Hamas, which occurred in Tehran on July 31.
Although Israel has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement in the assassination, Iran has accused the country of the attack. Major-General Hossein Salami, the top commander of the Guards, stressed the importance of power in today's world, stating, "In today's world, you either have to be powerful to survive, or surrender. There's no middle ground."
According to a statement from the Guards, a considerable number of cruise missiles with undetectable and highly explosive warheads have been added to the navy's fleet. The capabilities of these new missiles are said to be extensive, capable of causing significant damage and effectively sinking their intended targets. Furthermore, the Guards' navy revealed that it has also incorporated various types of long and medium-range missile systems, reconnaissance drones, and naval radars into its fleet, labeling them as the most advanced anti-surface and sub-surface weapons at their disposal.
During a televised segment, state television showcased several of the newly acquired weapons. However, due to security concerns, only 210 out of the total 2,654 systems were displayed, with the remaining strategic ones kept undisclosed.
Iran's possession of one of the largest missile programs in the Middle East is considered a crucial deterrent and retaliatory force against the United States and Israel in the event of a military confrontation. The U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence has confirmed that Iran currently possesses the highest number of ballistic missiles in the region.
The unveiling of these new cruise missiles by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards has raised significant concerns about escalating tensions in the Middle East. As the standoff between Iran and Israel intensifies, the region remains on edge, with the potential for a retaliation strike from Iran looming in response to the assassination of Hamas' leader.
While the full implications of Iran's enhanced naval capabilities are yet to be seen, this latest development highlights the ongoing arms race in the region and the underlying threat of a potential larger conflict. The international community continues to closely monitor the situation, urging all parties involved to exercise restraint and seek diplomatic solutions.
