**Iran Vows Retaliation After Israeli Strikes on Military Facilities**
Iran has issued a stern warning of a "harsh and regretful" response following an Israeli attack on its military installations on Saturday. This recent confrontation marks another episode in the escalating conflict between the two nations.
The Israeli assault came as retaliation for a barrage of missiles launched by Tehran against Israel. Iran characterized its missile salvo as retribution for the assassination of Iran-backed militia leaders and a senior commander in the Revolutionary Guards. In the days following the attack, Israel has cautioned Iran against any form of counter-attack, yet Tehran has asserted that it will respond, although it claims no desire for war.
"The recent action of the Zionist regime in attacking parts of our country was a desperate move and the Islamic Republic of Iran will give it a harsh and regretful response," declared Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani, a high-ranking advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to the Tasnim news agency.
Further complicating matters, a report from the US news website Axios indicates that Israeli intelligence believes Iran is planning to launch an attack from Iraq in the near future, possibly ahead of the US presidential election on November 5. The anticipated offensive is expected to utilize a significant number of drones and ballistic missiles.
The Axios report also mentioned that pro-Iran militias in Iraq might be instrumental in this planned attack. Such a move could be a strategy by Tehran to avoid direct Israeli retaliatory strikes on critical targets within Iran itself.
