The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) successfully intercepted two cruise missiles and rockets fired from Iraqi territory towards the southern Golan Heights. The incident occurred on Sunday, and the IDF confirmed the interception later that day. Although the projectiles did not breach Israeli territory, alarms were triggered as a precautionary measure. Furthermore, a drone approaching from the east prompted drone infiltration sirens in Israel's southern Arava region. However, the UAV was intercepted before reaching Israeli airspace.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for the attack, stating they targeted northern Israel with cruise missiles and southern Israel with explosive drones. This latest assault is not the first time Iranian-backed militias in Iraq have launched strikes against Israel. In the past, these militias have boasted about launching cruise missiles towards populous areas in Israel, such as Tel Aviv and Beersheba. Moreover, attacks on US military installations in the region, including a base in northeastern Syria in April, have also been part of their pattern.
The IDF remains vigilant against threats from various hostile entities in the region. As tensions persist, Israel continues to defend its borders and respond swiftly to any potential security risks. Despite the efforts of these militant groups, the IDF's proactive measures have thwarted yet another attempt to harm Israeli civilians and breach the nation's sovereignty.
