In an update provided by Houston Texans owner Cal McNair, it has been revealed that wide receiver Tank Dell is expected to make a full recovery following a shootout incident at a Florida restaurant last month. The team had initially described Dell's injury as a "minor wound" the day after the April 27th shooting, which also left nine others injured.
Speaking at the team's annual charity golf classic, McNair expressed his relief at Dell's progress. While he did not provide specific details about the nature of Dell's injury, McNair assured fans that the young player is on the road to recovery. "It looks like Tank will make a full recovery," said McNair. "We saw him in the office the other day and he looked good, in good spirits. But he'll have to rehab and get back to where he was."
Coach DeMeco Ryans, when approached with questions about Dell's readiness for Week 1, was somewhat guarded in his response. "Tank should be fine," Ryans stated. He further mentioned having had multiple conversations with Dell since the shooting, describing them as "good conversations." However, when pressed about potential missed practice time, Ryans evaded the question, reiterating his belief that Dell will be alright.
Tank Dell, a third-round draft pick in 2023, had showcased his talent during his time at the University of Houston. In his rookie season, Dell recorded 709 receiving yards and set a franchise record with seven touchdown receptions. Unfortunately, his progress was halted in December when he suffered a left fibula fracture. However, Coach Ryans had previously indicated that Dell had fully recovered from that injury before the incident at the restaurant.
As the team prepares for the upcoming season, the news of Dell's expected full recovery will undoubtedly bring relief to both fans and the Texans organization. While the timeline for Dell's return to practice remains uncertain, his determination and resilience are sure to drive him towards regaining his previous form on the football field.
