In a remarkable display of unity, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted 405-0 to approve a bill that would mandate equal security measures for major presidential candidates and sitting presidents. This decision follows two recent attempts on the life of former President Trump. The bipartisan bill, originally introduced by Reps. Mike Lawler and Ritchie Torres, aims to ensure that all presidential candidates receive the same level of protection as incumbent presidents.

The legislation garnered significant support in the House, surpassing the two-thirds majority required for passage with a unanimous vote. The bill's approval underscores the importance placed by lawmakers on enhancing the safety and security of individuals running for the highest office in the nation. The proposed measure will now advance to the Senate, where its future remains uncertain given the timing constraints posed by the upcoming 2024 election.

Moreover, the House has expanded the scope of the Task Force investigating the recent assassination attempts against former President Trump. Following Speaker Johnson's announcement earlier in the week, the Task Force's jurisdiction now encompasses both the initial incident in Butler, PA, and the subsequent attempt at a Florida golf course. This decision, made by unanimous consent, reflects a concerted effort by House members to thoroughly investigate and address the security threats faced by former presidents.

The Secret Service, in response to the alarming incidents, has heightened its security protocols for former President Trump. Notably, President Biden issued a directive to ensure that both Vice President Harris and Mr. Trump receive presidential-level security provisions. This enhanced security detail includes counter assault, counter surveillance, counter sniper teams, protective intelligence, and drone surveillance, among other measures. The Secret Service affirms that President Trump is now under protection at the agency's utmost levels, emphasizing the gravity of the threats against him.
