### House Republicans Keep All Options Open for Jack Smith Investigation

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, announced on Sunday that he and his fellow House Republicans are keeping every investigative avenue on the table concerning special counsel Jack Smith. Jordan, the chair of the House Judiciary Committee, emphasized the need for facts during his appearance on CNN's "State of the Union," a few days after Smith and the Justice Department began winding down two federal probes into President-elect Donald Trump, who was projected to win the recent presidential election.

Jordan stated, "We want the facts," and highlighted the importance of Congress performing its constitutional duty of oversight. He pointed out that the Congress should have access to all documents and asked for the preservation of all relevant materials.

When asked whether he would specifically call Smith to testify, Jordan avoided giving a direct answer. He remarked, "Maybe that's been the norm, but we're not taking anything off the table. I'm not saying for sure, but we want the information."

On Friday, Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., joined Jordan in sending a letter to Smith's office, demanding the preservation of all existing and future records related to the Office of Special Counsel's investigations and prosecutions of President Trump. The letter expressed concerns that the Office might attempt to purge relevant records following Trump's decisive election victory this week.

Jordan reiterated the need for transparency, stating, "We do want the facts, and that's why we sent the letter. Mr. Loudermilk and myself sent the letter saying, 'Hey, Mr. Smith, preserve this information.'"

Although Jordan currently chairs the House Judiciary Committee, the control of the House remains uncertain. NBC News has yet to project the outcomes of several key House districts, leaving open the possibility that Democrats could flip the House, which would likely result in Jordan losing his position as chair.

On the same Friday, Smith officially began wrapping up a criminal investigation into claims that Trump attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan subsequently upheld Smith's request to pause the case, giving him nearly a month to determine the next steps.
