The incident took place at around 3 a.m. on the 2400 block of St. Louis Road, according to the Jefferson City Fire Department.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) on the scene employed critical care interventions such as advanced airway procedures and the administration of CyanoKits (Hydroxocobalamin) to treat the injured. Fire officials reported that two of the injured were airlifted to the University Hospital in Columbia, while the other four were transported by ambulance to the same hospital.
The Jefferson City Special Operations Rescue Team (SORT) had to navigate through multiple layers of debris to rescue the final individual, a process that required intensive efforts. By 6 a.m., all individuals had been successfully extracted from the house. The injuries sustained ranged from moderate to severe.
In addition to the human casualties, two pets were rescued from the site and are now under the care of animal control. Fire officials are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion.
A substantial emergency response was deployed to the scene, involving eight units from the Jefferson City Fire Department and Jefferson City Police Department. A total of 37 fire and EMS personnel were present, supported by nine advanced life support ambulances, three chief officers, and three medical helicopters. Mutual aid assistance came from Osage, Callaway, and Mid-Mo Ambulance Districts, along with MU Air Medical, Mercy LifeLine, and AirEvac Lifeteam. The Jefferson City Public Works Department provided an excavator to aid in the debris removal efforts.
