In a display of open frustration and concern, House Democrats spent Friday morning engaged in hushed and anguished conversations about President Joe Biden's debate performance. Multiple lawmakers purposely ignored reporters' questions on the topic, while some openly expressed disappointment and called for Biden to suspend his campaign.

One member said, "It was a f------ disaster," reflecting the sentiments of many House Democrats who believe that Biden's performance raises doubts about his ability to lead. Another House Democrat shared that only House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, "Catholic to Catholic," may be capable of getting through to Biden.

Despite the criticism, Pelosi maintained that Biden "got off to a bad start but he came through okay on the issues later." She contrasted Biden's integrity with "a person who was lying the whole time." When asked if Biden is the best messenger for the party, Pelosi affirmed her strong support for the President, describing him as a "great president" who has done remarkable things for the country.

Rep. Jim Clyburn, one of Biden's staunchest supporters, acknowledged that Biden's performance was "strike one." However, he urged his fellow Democrats to "stay the course," emphasizing that there is "no better Democrat" to lead the ticket than Biden. Former Majority Leader Steny Hoyer also recognized that Biden had a "bad night" but defended his character and record as a good man.

Moderate Rep. Tom Suozzi expressed disappointment in Biden's performance, stating that they all would've liked to see a better display from the President. Nevertheless, Suozzi affirmed his commitment to fighting for his district, regardless of the outcome of the election.

While some House Democrats openly criticized Biden's debate performance, others intentionally avoided addressing the topic when pressed by reporters. Rep. Jamie Raskin appeared to fake a phone call, Rep. Lauren Underwood dismissed the questions as crazy, and Rep. Susan Wild deflected by talking about the weather.

Sources within the Democratic Party suggest that only Biden's inner circle of family and aides can convince him to change course. Even former President Barack Obama, it is speculated, would face resistance in any efforts to encourage Biden to step aside. The hope was that Obama could draw on his past success in saving the country from the Trump administration, but he dashed those hopes by expressing his continued support for Biden's bid.

On Friday afternoon, President Biden himself addressed his poor debate performance during a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina. He acknowledged his limitations, saying he doesn't walk or speak as easily as before, but emphasized that he knows how to tell the truth and do the job.

The Biden campaign, now openly acknowledging the President's bad night, responded to calls for him to step down or drop out. Biden Campaign communication director Michael Tyler firmly stated that there are "no conversations about that whatsoever." He also confirmed that Biden would participate in the ABC News debate scheduled for Sept. 10.

As the fallout from the debate continues, the Democratic Party grapples with internal divisions and concerns about Biden's ability to lead. With November approaching, the stakes remain high as the party seeks to stay united and rally behind their chosen candidate.
