In a recent statement, the grieving mother of Rachel Morin, who was allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant, criticized Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for depersonalizing her daughter. Mayorkas had referred to Rachel merely as an "individual" during a CNN interview when discussing the deaths of Americans at the hands of illegal immigrants.
During his appearance on CNN, Mayorkas expressed sympathy for the family and loved ones of "the individual who was murdered, the woman, the mother." However, Patty Morin, Rachel's mother, appeared on Fox News and condemned Mayorkas for his remarks, claiming they were a part of a "political statement" that objectified her daughter.
Morin argued that the Biden administration's decision to categorize Rachel as a statistic showed their impersonal approach and lack of value for human life. She expressed her dissatisfaction with Mayorkas' refusal to take responsibility for her daughter's murder, emphasizing that the criminal responsible should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
Fox News Digital reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for a response to Morin's remarks and whether they plan to reach out to the Morin family. The department's spokesperson stated that they can't comment on the ongoing investigation but affirmed that anyone committing such a heinous crime should face full prosecution.
The suspect, Victor Martinez Hernandez, an illegal migrant, was arrested on June 14 after a 10-month investigation into Morin's murder. He has been charged with rape and first-degree murder. Hernandez had reportedly been in the U.S. since February 2023 and was apprehended in a bar in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Police also linked his DNA to a home invasion in Los Angeles in March, where a mother and her daughter were assaulted.
Hernandez has since been extradited to Maryland to face charges. After leaving Tulsa, he arrived at Martin State Airport and was transported to the Harford County Detention Center.
The tragic case of Rachel Morin's murder has reignited the debate on immigration and the responsibility of the Biden administration in addressing the issue. The victim's family is seeking justice, emphasizing the need for accountability for individuals who commit such devastating crimes.
