In a harrowing incident on Mount Shavano in the southern Rocky Mountains of Colorado, a hiker was left stranded after being abandoned by his coworkers during an office retreat. According to reports, the group embarked on the 11-mile trek at sunrise on August 23, following the standard route to the mountain's summit. However, as the group reached the peak, the man found himself behind his colleagues, eventually becoming disoriented while descending.

To make matters worse, the belongings he had left to mark his path were unintentionally moved by another group of hikers. This misfortune led the man to take a wrong turn into a treacherous boulder field along the mountain's northeast slope. Realizing his predicament, he reached out to his coworkers via text message, informing them of his location.

The man persisted in his efforts to find his way back, sending an updated pin indicating his whereabouts to his coworkers at around 3:30 p.m. Unfortunately, shortly after, a severe storm with freezing rain and high winds engulfed the area, causing further disorientation and cutting off his cell phone signal.

Growing concern for the missing hiker prompted the reporting of his absence to the Chaffee County Search and Rescue team at 9 p.m. Devoting their resources to the search, the team sent out two ground teams and a drone pilot to the last known location from the man's second update. However, the inclement weather impeded their efforts, limiting visibility and forcing a helicopter deployment that yielded no clues.

With still no sign of the hiker by the next morning, a more extensive search with assistance from multiple rescue teams commenced. In a remarkable turn of events, the missing hiker regained enough cell service to call 911, reporting his disorientation and multiple falls, leaving him unable to get back on his feet.
