**Hezbollah Drone Attack Deep Inside Israel Raises Alarm Over Defense Vulnerabilities**

A recent drone attack by Hezbollah targeting an Israeli army base significantly challenges Israel’s efforts to neutralize threats from the Iran-supported militant group, despite an ongoing major military campaign. The drone, launched from southern Lebanon, penetrated Israeli air defenses and struck the Golani Brigade’s base 40 miles from the border, hitting the dining hall just after 7 pm on Sunday during dinner time. The assault resulted in the death of four soldiers and injured over 60 others, eight of whom are seriously wounded.

The attack reveals Hezbollah's advanced intelligence-gathering capabilities and highlights the group's capacity to inflict maximal damage. Daniel Sobelman, an international security expert from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, stated that the attack demonstrates Hezbollah's capacity to strike back even after suffering setbacks in its leadership, including the recent death of long-time leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Although Israel boasts highly effective air defense systems, these systems primarily counter rockets and missiles rather than low-flying drones like the Mirsad, a type commonly used by Hezbollah. Orna Mizrahi, a senior research fellow at the Israeli Institute for National Security Studies, noted that UAVs operate with low radar signatures, making them harder to detect and leading to significant vulnerabilities in Israel's defenses.

This incident is not isolated. Earlier in June, Hezbollah released a video documenting a drone's surveillance of military and civilian sites around Haifa. In July, another drone attack from Yemen orchestrated by Iran-backed Houthi rebels resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries in Tel Aviv, without triggering any warning sirens. These patterns underline Hezbollah's increasing tactic of combining multiple drones to cause chaos and confusion.

Despite intensive bombardments and ground operations in Lebanon, Hezbollah persists in its military actions against Israel. Since September 16, over 1,500 fatalities have been reported in Lebanon. The ongoing conflict has displaced more than 1.2 million people, according to UN figures, with four Israeli divisions now stationed in southern Lebanon.

The escalation draws a bleak parallel to the 2006 invasion of Lebanon by Israel, involving around 30,000 Israeli troops, which ended in a prolonged conflict lasting 34 days. The current situation raises concerning questions about the potential for a more extensive conflict as the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) face sophisticated strategies from Hezbollah, along with new challenges in its defensive measures.
