In a significant escalation of tensions, Hezbollah, an Iran-backed terror group, unleashed a massive barrage of over 100 rockets on northern Israel on Wednesday. The attack came as a response to an Israeli airstrike that killed senior Hezbollah field commander Taleb Abdallah the previous day, security sources reported.

While the Israeli military managed to intercept some of the rockets, others struck various locations in northern Israel, causing fires, according to official sources. Abdallah, also known as Abu Taleb, was stationed in the Lebanese village of Jouaiyya when the airstrike took his life, along with two other Hezbollah operatives. He was believed to be Hezbollah's top commander for the central region of the southern border strip.

Abdallah's funeral was scheduled to take place on Wednesday, marking the loss of the most senior Hezbollah commander during the ongoing clashes between the group and Israel, which have persisted for eight months. He held a higher rank than Wissam Tawil, another high-ranking Hezbollah commander who was killed in a previous Israeli airstrike in Lebanon, security sources confirmed.

The IDF has remained silent about Abdallah's death. However, following the incident, they detected approximately 90 rockets being fired from southern Lebanon towards the Golan Heights. In response, Israeli jets successfully targeted multiple launch sites in southern Lebanon that were aiming at the Jewish state, reported the IDF.

Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for launching at least five attacks against Israel in retaliation, including one targeting an Israeli military factory. The group also asserted that it attacked Israel's military headquarters in Ein Zeitim and Ami'ad, as well as an Israeli military air surveillance station in Meron.

The ongoing hostilities between Hezbollah and the IDF have forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate from northern Israel and southern Lebanon. The IDF reported that the attacks by the terror group have resulted in the deaths of 18 Israeli soldiers and 10 civilians. On the other end, the Israeli military estimates that they have killed over 320 Hezbollah members since October 7th.

The situation remains highly volatile, with both sides engaged in a dangerous cycle of retaliatory attacks. International observers fear that the confrontation could further escalate and result in a full-fledged conflict in the region.
