Heavy Rain Causes Street Flooding in Houston and Surrounding Areas

Houston and the surrounding areas experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, resulting in street flooding in various locations. Both Houston Transtar and the Harris County Pct. 4 Constable's Office have reported multiple high-water spots, causing concerns for motorists and residents.

According to Houston Transtar, several areas in Montgomery County have been affected. IH-45 Northbound at Loop 336/Cartwright reported flooding in the right shoulder, right lane, and center lane. However, as of 7:13 AM today, it has been verified.

Similarly, flooding was also reported at IH-45 Northbound at Rayford Rd/Sawdust Rd in Montgomery County, with two frontage road lanes being cleared by authorities at 12:21 PM today. Another high-water location was spotted at IH-45 Northbound at Wilson Rd, where the exit ramp was verified as flooded at 10:51 AM today.

In Montgomery County, IH-69 Southbound at FM 1314 experienced flooding, affecting three frontage road lanes, as confirmed at 11:55 AM today. Additionally, US-290 Northwest Eastbound at FM-529 also saw two frontage road lanes being detected as flooded around 11:40 AM today.

The Harris County Pct. 4 Constable's Office reported several high-water spots in various neighborhoods. These include London Way and Barmby Drive, Orchid Mist in the Fairfield Neighborhood, FM 2920 Road and Mahaffey Road, Reynaldo Drive and Banquo, the 3400 block of Deer Valley, MUD 82 on Cypresswood Drive and Birnamwood Blvd, Smith Elementary School, Lake Paloma and Rangler Pass in Creekside, Spring Mill and Cypresswood Drive, and Enchanted River Drive and Enchanted Oaks Drive.

Furthermore, Montgomery County witnessed numerous high-water spots throughout the area. The Polk County roads have also been significantly affected due to the heavy rainfall. Authorities have advised the public to avoid travel, particularly near low-water crossings.

Among the Polk County locations impacted are County Line Road at Caney Creek, Farm to Market 3081 at Peach Creek, Royal Bridge and Royal Forest Roads by Caney Creek, Mount Zion Road at Caney Creek Tributary Three, Cedar Lane at McRae Creek, Tanyard Road at McRae Creek, Greenridge Road at Spring Branch West Fork, Farm to Market 942 East at Big Sandy Creek, Johnson Branch Road at Big Sandy Creek Tributary, and many more.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution and seek alternative routes if possible when encountering flooded roads. It's important to prioritize safety and avoid areas with high-water spots to prevent any accidents or damage to vehicles. Officials will continue to monitor the situation closely as the heavy rain persists.
